Mooie strijd in Oss
Op eerste Pinksterdag werden onder een stralend zon de kwalificatietrainingen verreden. Het asfalt was warm en veel rijders probeerden toch meer uit de machine te halen dan mogelijk was met een crash tot gevolg. Gelukkig bleef de schade beperkt tot materiële schade. Bij de IRRC Supersport was de Tsjech Marek Cerveny de snelste, gevolgd door de Italiaan Luca Gottardi en de winnaar van vorig jaar Joey den Besten. Bij de Superbikes was de ervaren Belg Sebastien LeGrelle het snelst voor Didier Grams en Vincent Lonbois.
Op de racedag was het een stuk bewolkter, waren de temperaturen lager, maar gelukkig wel droog. Dat bleef de gehele dag zo. Veel mensen hadden de weg naar het circuit gevonden. Genoeg ingrediënten om er een mooie racedag van te maken.
Tijdens de eerste IRRC Supersportrace was het circuit nog nat van de regen die nacht. Dat zorgde voor bandenpoker op de grid. Er waren rijders die goed gokten, maar ook rijders die mis gokten... Cerveny had kopstart en in die eerste ronde viel de nummer drie van de startopstelling, Joey den Besten, al snel terug. Hij had duidelijk mis gegokt. Iemand die ook onvoldoende rekening hield met de omstandigheden was Laurent Hoffmann. Hij zette er bij het opkomen van start/finish het gas te vroeg op met een highsider als gevolg. Dat betekende einde race voor hem. In de achtste ronde van negen kwam Gottardi naar de kop, hij maakte een fout in de laatste ronde waardoor Cerveny toch met de winst naar huis ging. Op het podium werd hij vergezeld door Gottardi en de Caluwe. Tijdens race twee was het een stuk warmer en droger. Cerveny had weer kopstart. Joey den Besten ging hem voorbij in de eerste ronde, maar maakte helaas een remfout. Cerveny was eerste na de eerste ronde voor Gottardi en den Besten. Gedurende de wedstrijd dichtte Gottardi het gat naar Cerveny, maar achterhalen is wat anders dan inhalen. Dat lukte dan ook niet. Cerverny pakte de dubbel. Gottardi werd tweede voor den Besten.
Tijdens de eerste IRRC Superbike was het circuit geheel droog. Didier Grams had kopstart, maar werd gedurende de eerste ronde achterhaald door gastrijder Koen Zeelen. Dat was van korte duur, aangezien LeGrelle naar plaats een doorschoof. De eerste drie, LeGrelle, Grams en Zeelen, hadden een kleine voorsprong op Vincent Lonbois en Johan Frederiks. Dat bleef een paar ronden zo. Lonbois werkte zich echter naar voren en kwam op plaats twee terecht. Hij liep in op de nummer een LeGrelle. LeGrelle versnelde weer waardoor het gat nooit gedicht kon worden. Fredriks had even een heel snelle ronde, maar maakte ook gelijk een fout en viel terug. LeGrelle kwam als eerste over de finish, op 0,1 seconde gevolgd voor Lonbois en Zeelen op plaats drie.Tijdens de tweede wedstrijd kwam LeGrelle slecht weg. Lonbois had kopstart, maar werd nog in de eerste ronde achterhaald door Zeelen. Dat hield hij anderhalve ronde vast. Toen was het weer Lonbois. Fredriks kwam sterk opzetten en verwees Grams naar plaats vier. Lonbois was niet te houden en hij liep weg van de rest. LeGrelle achterhaalde de rijders voor hem en kwam op de tweede plaats terecht. Daarachter waren het Fredriks, Zeelen en Grams die als een touwtje aan elkaar zaten. Dat ging op haren en snaren. Lonbois finishte als eerste, LeGrelle als tweede en in de laatste bocht werd pas uitgemaakt wie nummer drie werd. Dat was uiteindelijk Zeelen met minder dan 0,1 seconde voorsprong op Fredriks. De rijders hebben nu een maand rust. Over een maand gaat de IRRC karavaan naar Oostende in België.
Beautiful fights in Oss
The practice was held on Sunday morning and early afternoon. The track was warm because of the sunshine so the riders thought they could get more out of their bike than possible. The result was many crashes with only some material damage. Marek Cerveny from the Czech Republic was the fastest man on track in the IRRC Supersport. The Italian Luca Gottardi was second and the winner of last year, Joey den Besten, third. Just like in Hengelo Sebastien LeGrelle was the fastest man in the Superbikes. Multiple winner Didier Grams second and Vincent Lonbois third.
On race day the weather wasn’t as beautiful as the day before but it stayed dry all day. Because of the good weather many spectators found the way to the track. Enough ingredients for a beautiful race day. During the first IRRC Supersport race the track was still a little bit wet from the rain in the night before. That meant tire poker on the grid. Some choose the right tires, some didn’t. Cerveny arrived first in the first curve. Joey den Besten had the wrong tires and lost many places during the first few laps. Laurent Hoffmann had a highsider at the end of lap one. End of the race for him. In the last lap Gottardi took the lead but he made a mistake in the last lap. So Cerveny won the race, Gottardi second and de Caluwe third. It was a lot warmer during the second IRRC Supersport race. Cerveny was the first to arrive in curve one but lost his first position to Joey den Besten. A couple of curves later den Besten missed the curve and Cerveny and Gottardi overtook him. Gottardi closed the gap between Cerveny and himself. But overtaking is something else. Cerveny won the race, Gottardi second and den Besten third. The first IRRC Superbike race was totally dry. Grams took the lead but guest rider Koen Zeelen overtook him during the first lap. LeGrelle was third. There was a gap between the first three riders and Vincent Lonbois and Johan Fredriks. LeGrelle came to the first place, Zeelen was second and Grams third. The situation stayed the same for several laps. Lonbois found a fast race pace and raced to second place. Fredriks was the fastest man on track half way but made a mistake. LeGrelle finished first with 0,1 sec difference between him and the man on second place Lonbois, Zeelen was third. Second (0, 1 sec difference) and LeGrelle had a bad start and Lonbois a good start in race two. Zeelen overtook him in the first lap. He was first for almost 2 laps. Lonbois overtook him and stayed their till the finish line. Fredriks had a good second part of the race and overtook Grams for place four. Nobody could stop Lonbois. As a result the gap between him and the rider on second place kept on growing. After a bad start LeGrelle recovered and overtook the riders in front of him for the second place. Behind him the battle for the last podium place kept on going between Fredriks, Zeelen and Grams. Lonbois finish on the first place, LeGrelle was second. Till the last curve it was not sure who would be third. Zeelen overtook Fredriks in the last curve and was third with less than 0,1 sec before Fredriks and Grams. In a month the third IRRC event of this season will be held in Oostende, Belgium.
